Coming back from another intensive 2 months training in China, Wudang Mountains - the home of Tai Chi - Giselle Martins will be hosting a 5-weeks of Internal Martial Arts course on Mondays from 6:30pm to 8pm starting on the 18th November at Living Yoga Sanga in Mullumbimby. Each session will focus on a specific element from the (Wushing) Five Elements Theory with its respective set of movement exercises. (Although you will be welcome to join an individual class if you can't make the 5 weeks!)
The Five Elements are a comprehensive template that organizes all natural phenomena into five master groups or patterns in nature. Each of the five groups—Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water—include categories such as a season, a direction, climate, stage of growth and development, internal organ, body tissue, emotion, aspect of the soul, taste, color, sound . . . the categories are seemingly limitless. The Five Elements reflect a deep understanding of natural law, the Universal order underlying all things in our world.
Qigong is a delightful practice of standing, sitting, and moving meditative methods that improve one’s health and vitality. These five elements Qigong course is primarily concerned with transformation in body, mind and energy (Qi). Experience how still your mind can become and how much present you can be while integrating physical postures, breathing techniques and mental focus. These ancient practices can also provide a way of becoming calmer and more relaxed while working on your coordination, flexibility and strength.
The Five Elements show us how the structures and systems in our bodies are connected to each other; how we are connected to our environment and the natural world; how our world is part of the greater universe. Many people today have lost this deep connection to nature and no longer are able to feel this truth resonate in their being. The Universal principle of connection still exists nonetheless.
These teachings, also rooted on the Traditional Chinese Medicine, focus on our connection to nature and all of creation. Qigong is an internal alchemy practice to help us deeply communicate with the universal elements. It is a way to open energy systems of the body and harmonize the organ systems and focuses on re-establishing harmony within the body.
The course is suitable for students who have never practiced internal martial arts or meditation before, or students who have some experience but want to develop their practice further.
18th November - WOOD
The Wood Element focuses on transformation - is all about growth, change and expansion. It teaches flexibility and the willingness to change as represented by a tree's ability to go with the flow of the wind and its bending branches.
25th November – FIRE
The Fire Element focuses on energising—the upward flow of energy that energises and amplifies all that it touches.
2nd December - EARTH
The Earth Element focuses on integration—the spherical, pulsating flow of energy to intertwine and balance your entire mind-body-energy matrix.
9th December – METAL
The Metal Element focuses on expansion—periphery-to-centre and centre-to-periphery flows of energy to create more internal space.
16th December – WATER
The Water Element focuses on cleansing—the downward flow of energy to clear blockages and activate the root.
